This piece originates from the Theatre Royal in Brighton which was built in 1806
This is a six-sided piece, the pagoda style roof has large ventilation holes which would have been necessary when the lighting was by Lime Light
The lantern is a large piece one of the green glazed panels opens for access, a simple bayonet fitting has been hung from the top of the lantern without making any alterations to it, this could be removed without leaving a trace if so wished
The lantern is intricately carved with six caryatid, fierce faces and unusually shaped bodies, and acanthus shapes top and bottom
A lovely and very unusual piece in sound condition with an interesting history
The lantern is 36” high and 23” in diameter
