Jens Quistgaard Dansk Spider Cast Iron Candlestick Holder

A cast iron Spider candlestick holder designed by the Danish designer Jens Harald Quistgaard (1919-2008) for Dansk. Made in Denmark, the candle holder has spaces for twelve candles and is marked “Dansk Designs” and “Denmark” to the underside.

After an early grounding in traditional handicrafts, Quistgaard began working as an industrial designer. Quistgaard was the head designer at Dansk Designs from 1954 through the 1980s. His tableware and kitchenware designs became synonymous with Scandinavian modern design and found their way into millions of homes in the USA, Europe and Japan. His work is held in museum collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, among others.
