A good example of an applied ‘bent arm’ Windsor armchair, attributed to the West Country, probably Yealmpton. C.1820
Constructed from ash with hand-drawn back spindles and elm seat, raised on simulated bamboo turned legs.
Displaying a wonderful colour and patina with traces of original green paint.
Interestingly the sculptural arms on this chair are fashioned from a steamed and bent section of ash, which are shaved thinner at the point at which the right angle bend was made.
Structurally sound.
