This lamp was everywhere. It illuminated students’ textbooks, brightened up architects’ drawing boards, but also shed light on… crime in police investigations, being a part of equipment of many police stations in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s and 1970s, thanks to which it was even nicknamed “The Commissar”. It shone in Prague, Bratislava, Moscow, Havana…
The 1012 01 (215 03 01) model lamp, designed in 1968 by the Slovak sculptor Jan Šucháň, is one of the best known Czechoslovak products and has been used in many Czech and Slovak households ever since, mainly because of its reliability and functionality. In many other homes around the world, it has been in use for a short time, being a hard-won icon of Central European design in the second half of the 20th century. Its simple design with functional technical features perfectly reflects the spirit of minimalism not only of the demolished countries.
The Commissar became the communist answer to the world famous lamp with an adjustable arm “Luxo Jr. film studio Pixar”. The bakelite lampshade placed on the arm is adjustable in all directions by means of a movable ring on a metal frame. The lamp is produced in the following factories: Elektrosvit Nové Zámky (today Slovakia).
Very good condition.
