Early 19th Century Uzbekistan Shahrisyabz Suzani
Silk on cotton ground. Exhibited: The Textile Museum, 27 Sept. 1996 to 23 Feb. 1997. See Plate 18, Khans, Nomads & Needlework Suzanis and Embroideries of Central Asia, 2012. “This spectacular suzani is unique. Prominent flowers, perhaps influenced by large medallion suzanis, contrast nicely with the open, spacious field and main border. In the field, large spade palmettes, arranged in pairs flanking the center rosette, slope at odd angles.” RF. Provenance: The Collection of Russell S. and Dona Fling, Columbus, OH.
