A French carved wood fragment from the early 19th century. This antique wall decoration from France has an overall oblong, just shy of 6.5 feet in length, having a horizontally positioned shape, with a level, wooden top rail draped with several smaller swagged ribbon carvings, and a larger three-dimensional, hand carved swagged wreath in sunflower and foliage motif below, which gathers at center with a bow. This piece has traces of gilt throughout, with remnants of red green paint (primarily along the top rail), and a wonderfully aged patina. This early 19th century French plaque, with its elongated shape, would look lovely hanging in a living or dining room as an architectural focal point.
