The massive Chinese porcelain vase of traditional tianqiuping form, with a robust globular body and tall narrow cylindrical neck. The vase exuberantly decorated with a series of nine dragons cavorting amongst the waves. The dragons portrayed in various positions, all with wonderful movement. Their bodies twisting and writhing, claws extended, tails coiled, some with mouths open in triumphant roars. The main dragon in red, and portrayed to face the viewer.
The dragons have been modeled in relief and painted in bright overglaze enamels of reds, greens, yellows, and turquoise. Their scales and faces wonderfully detailed. The waves painted in underglaze blue against a white ground.
The underside with an apocryphal “Da Qing Daoguang Nian Zhi” mark in underglaze blue against a white ground.
With a Chinese hardwood stand.
