Diminutive blanket box, in windsor green paint, with rare and beautiful unicorn stencils. Made ca 1820-1840, the chest was found in the Mahantango Valley of Pennsylvania. Very likely it was made and painted there, in what is now known as the most venerable location for the making of elaborately decorated Pennsylvania case furniture. An exciting find.
Construction: Pine with a dovetailed case. Molding and bottom board applied with cut nails. Cast iron hinges.
Provenance: Ex-Greg Kramer.
