The fine art lithograph print poster is published by AIAP – editions Lahumiere in 1975 on the occasion of the ” UNESCO – Ano International De La Mujer ” ( International Women’s Year ), printed in France by Mourlot Imp. Paris in an unnumbered limited edition. It features an artwork image created by the artist Sonia Delaunay.
Sonia Delaunay ( 1885 – 1979 ) born Sarah Llintchna Stern, was a Jewish Ukrainian born French artist, who spent most of her working life in Paris. She was formally trained in Russia and Germany before moving to France and expanding her practice to include textile, fashion, and set design. She co-founded The Orphism Art Movement, known for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes, with her artist husband Robert Delaunay and others.
She was the first living female artist to have a retrospective exhibition at The Louvre Museum in Paris in 1964, and in 1975 was named an officer of The French Legion of Honor. Delaunay’s work in Modern design included the concepts of Geometric Abstraction, and the integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, and clothing into her oeuvre of art practices.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot Family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
Beginning in the 1930’s Fernand Mourlot invited major artists of the time into the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithography plates to create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.

International Women’s Year was the name given to the year 1975 by The United Nations. Since that year March 8th has been celebrated as International Women’s Day. After years of work The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women to adopt a declaration to eliminate discrimination against women, CSW began working in earnest to obtain passage of a declaration to secure women’s human rights. The first UN World Conference was held in Mexico City in 1975. The conference led to the adoption of The World Plan of Action, as well as The Declaration on the Equality of Women and their Contribution to Development and Peace.
The rare out of print framed fine art poster print measures 20 3/8″ W X 30 5/8″ H X 1 3/8″ D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed detail matte eggshell finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent ” like new ” condition. The poster print is in excellent ” like new ” clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and light minor wear in the margin border area.
