These two drawings by the same hand are unsigned. Done in Sanguine on paper the nudes appear to both be different aspects of the same individual since both works have the same facial features and are on the same kind of paper. The feel and look of the works while academic studies are very detailed in relation to musculature and pose. These could then be preparatory studies for a larger more complete work in oil but without further study, all is conjecture beyond the obvious images which show great skill in rendering, and detail and an understanding of anatomy and the medium used. Framed with the paper’s edge floating to make clear the preparatory nature of the works and to make one the sense of contact with the artist’s efforts more direct. The frames are simple black lacquered wood making the works the prominent feature.
